HYDERABAD: The consumers are in for a shock as the state government has agreed to increase water tariff. The government would issue necessary orders soon in this regard. The hike ranges between 25 to 50 percent and will be levied on all types of consumers. The hike will help generate Rs 15 to 20 crore per month which would sustain the Water Board in the long-run, according to officials. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is also the chairman of the water board, gave his nod for increasing water tariff for all categories including domestic consumers.Water Board officials say that the revision has become necessary for the board as it was in a financial doldrums and government failed to provide the subsidy to run the Board. The board is presently suffering from a monthly revenue deficit of Rs 15 crore and accumulated revenue deficit of over Rs 400 crore.They said tariff has to be revised as it is the lowest among all the metropolitan cities in the country.
