PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the BJP on Thursday demanded CBI probes into the alleged corruption in the implementation of Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Housing Scheme (PKHS) for BPL families by Pondicherry Slum Clearance Board (PSCB). They also demanded action against the MLAs, MPs, ministers who recommended ineligible beneficiaries who had drawn the subsidy under the scheme.Addressing a press conference here, BJP State president SPK Damodhar said `344 crore has been disbursed to 47,221 beneficiaries to convert their huts into concrete houses. However, he alleged there had been irregularities in selection of beneficiaries and disbursement of the subsidy which happened through the recommendations of Congress MLAs, ministers and MPs. They recommended their party cadres to avail of the subsidy by misusing their power which included even ineligible beneficiaries, he alleged. Some of the sanctioned subsidy did not even reach the beneficiary and the funds had not been utilised for conversion of their huts into concrete houses. Those beneficiaries were still residing in huts, despite the grant of subsidy in their name, said Dhamodhar. During the enumeration of huts that had been damaged due to cyclone Thane, it had been found that not even 10,000 huts had been converted into concrete houses. Around 86,000 huts had suffered damage in the cyclone. He charged that people residing in non-Congress constituencies were being deprived of the subsidy under the scheme.He also demanded that beneficiaries under the scheme for the past 10 years be enquired in person and action initiated against the MLAs, MPs and chairpersons for recommending ineligible persons. The funds provided to them must be collected back and remitted inthe rreasury, he said.On the alleged corruption in distribution of single boiled rice through PDS, Dhamodhar said the BJP had already submitted a memorandum to the Lt Governor seeking an enquiry into the issue.
