THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Human Rights Commission will probe into the death of Sr Mary Ancy of the Fatima Holy Sprit Convent, Poonkulam. Commission acting chairman K E Gangadharan will collect evidence from the convent at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Commission based its decision on a petition filed by activist Jomon Puthenpurackal. In his petition, Jomon had stated that the local police attempted to write the death off as a suicide even before launching an investigation.  In a statement here, Jomon said the police’s stand that Sr Ancy had committed suicide by removing the concrete slab of the tank on her own was strange. The slab was so heavy that it would require the efforts of two or more people to lift it, he said. This alone proves that Sr Ancy’s death was not a suicide, he said. Sr Mary Ancy, 48, was found dead in a water tank at the convent on August 16.
