New Delhi: He is working in Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's production 'Speedy Singhs' but Indo-Canadian stand-up comedian Russell Peters says he finds the Mumbai-based film industry awful.
'Speedy Singhs' is the dubbed version of Akshay's international production'Breakaway' with a backdrop of ice-hockey.
Peters, 40, who was born in Canada to Anglo-Indian parents and has been doing stand-up comedy since the age of 19, says he hates Bollywood films and has never seen one in his life and does not plan to star in one.
"I hate Bollywood. The movies are all garbage, just terrible. It's my opinion, obviously there are billions who like and love them. I don't like all the singing, dancing and the dramatic crying. I have never seen a Bollywood film in my life. I have refused to do them earlier and will do so in future. But I hope some filmmakers take a chance to make real movies," Peters told PTI.
The comedian does not have very kind views about
Bollywood actors too, who he thinks are "just pretty faces".
"I don't think Indian actors are good, a couple of them are like Anupam (Kher) but not many are there like him in the industry. There are thousand of actors and actresses in the industry, but you can count on hand how many of them are really good, rest of them are just pretty faces."
Peters is known for mocking Indians in his stand-up shows and has acted in Hollywood films before like 'Lord Have Mercy' and 'Comedy Now'. This is the first time he has worked in an Indian production.
The film also stars Anupam Kher, Vinay Virmani, Gurpreet Guggi and Hollywood actress Camilla Belle. The film releases this week.
"I had a good time on the sets. My character is a lovable jerk. And he does everything possible to make Vinay's life miserable," Peters said.
"Anupam is a phenomenal actor and very professional. Akshay and him, these guys have done so many films, I don't know how many of them are good but sure they have been on a lot of sets and it shows when they are working," Peters said.
The comedian says he agreed to to the film because it isnot a Bollywood movie but has Indian actors in it.
"I did this movie because it's not a Bollywood film but with only Indian actors. The script and character appealed to me and I am very pleased with the final product," he added.
Peters also said he didn't know that Akshay was such a big star before working on the project.
"Akshay is cool. I didn't realise how big he was until I met him. He is a nice guy. I didn't expect a guy with such a stature will be so good," he said.
Although Peters doesn't plan on doing Bollywood movies he does have his hands full with Hollywood films.
"I will never stop doing stand up, that's my career but I will do movies in Hollywood. In fact I am doing a couple of Hollywood movies like 'Source Code', 'New Years Eve' and a movie with Eva Mendes," Peters said.
