Mumbai: Tell newcomer Arjun Kapoor that one would expect his father Boney Kapoor to launch him in Bollywood, and the young actor surprises us by stating that he finds the concept of 'launching' someone rather outdated.
He reasons, "The film should have me on the basis of what I can do. We were looking for suitable material, director to helm it and me to make it as an actor. No one is launched anymore. I happened to audition and get this film. I have a long way to go."
Considering his father played a major part in shaping uncle Anil Kapoor's career, it seems he'd have a strategy for the son as well. "I have an advantage of him around for the experience he has. He knows the pulse of the audience. Mr India appealed to the classes and masses alike. While I can think of strategy after May 11 (the release date of his debut sfilm), I know my dad is one call away when I need any advice," he sums up.
Coming from a filmy family, Arjun does not mince words saying that he does not want to take the huge expectations around him very seriously.
He adds that while the recent times were extremely testing for him, he is trying his best to keep his focus in place. Even while the promos of his debut project were receiving good response, Arjun was busy tending to his mother Mona Kapoor, who recently succumbed to cancer.
The actor says, "Yes, it was a difficult time, being two extremes. But I'm working on staying focused. It's nice that people are appreciating it," and adds, "I don't want to get bogged down by expectations."
