Patna:The trouble has begun for the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar.
Opposition parties in the state are up in arms demanding the removal of JD (U) MP Ajit Kumar Singh from the party.
Ajit Singh is also chairman of NAFED and is one of the main accused in a multi crore scam that was exposed by CNN-IBN.
When the irregularity was exposed, the Union Agriculture Ministry had asked for a CBI enquiry but that was not the end of the matter.
Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD is gunning for Ajit Singh demanding that criminal action be taken against him.
Former RJD minister, Shyam Rajak says, "Talks about good governance should be translated into action. Ajit Singh should be expelled from the party and the organisation of which he is chairman. The Indian government should arrest him post-haste."
Documents with CNN-IBN had proved that there was something grossly wrong with the monetary dealings in NAFED. The man in question was Ajit Singh.
Despite the matter being brough to light, the banks and financial institutions involved have so far failed to react. However, RJD has taken up this issue.
The NAFED scam did not just involve huge sums of money, but has also provided ammunition to Lalu Yadav and his men to corner the Nitish Kumar government.
The finally replaced leader of Bihar is collecting documents relating to the irregularity while his men have already opened their guns.
"This is a horrifying incident that has been brought to light. We don't have all the information relating to the scam yet but we are trying to learn all that we can," says Lalu Yadav.
Shyam Rajak added that if the government did not take up the case, then the RJD would protest and demonstrate till justice was done.
The JD(U) however, has gone on defensive before Ajit Singh's issue becomes a political storm in the state.
Says Science and Technology Minister of State, Anil Kumar, "We don't know about any scams that Ajit Singh was involved in but if there is anything, then be rest assured that we will reach to the bottom of it."
With the court closely monitoring the scam and the Opposition making noises over it, Nitish Kumar may find it difficult to defend his man.
