Attars are natural perfumes which hold a special significance in the Islamic tradition during Ramazan. These fragrances are majorly used by Allah devotees during their prayers. It is believed to serve as a reminder of purity and devotion. With references in the Quran and Hadith praising the use of perfumes, it is said that Prophet Muhammad used to have favoured fragrances and encouraged their use among his devotees. Following the teachings and beliefs of the prophet, the sales of attar always witness a huge surge during Ramazan.
Different types of attars are available in the market, with the price ranging from Rs 100 to 5000. Focusing their livelihood around the business of fragrances, a man named Aamir Khan’s family members have been running an attar shop at Nehru Park in Nizamabad district in Telangana for 25 years. All kinds of attars are available at their shop. These are kept in different types of glass bottles. They are sold according to the needs of the consumers.
Customers buy perfumes after testing them on their hands. Once they love the fragrance, they never hold back in buying them at the price stated by the shop owners. Aamir Khan, the shop manager, says that Ramzan means Attar. He claims that no one can celebrate Ramazan without Attar.
Aamir Khan stated that their attar shop was the first of its kind in Nizamabad. He said that all kinds of attars are found at his shop, which are largely imported from Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. These are sold in fancy crystal bottles measuring 3 ml, 6 ml and 12 ml.
Apart from fragrances, the shop also sells Ramazan special hats. For small children to adults, they advertise and sell all kinds of hats during Ramazan at a cheap and affordable rate.
