ISI should have no role in Pak politics: Gilani
Recent media reports had claimed that the ISI's political wing had recently been closed.

Lahore: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said the spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence should have no role in the country's politics.

"The ISI should have no role in the country's politics," he said while interacting with reporters at his residence on Sunday evening.

He was responding to a question on whether the ISI's political wing had been closed. "My principled stance is before you on this issue," he said.

Recent media reports had claimed that the ISI's political wing had recently been closed, while the military's media wing ISPR denied that the spy agency had such a wing.

Politicians of various parties, especially former premier Nawaz Sharif's PML-N, have suspected the claim. "It has been closed verbally, not practically," said a politician who did not want to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.
