Washington: The new first lady of France, Carla Bruni, has spoken candidly of her whirlwind romance and recent marriage to French president Nicholas Sarkozy.
The former supermodel and singer, in her first interview since her relationship with Sarkozy began last year, said that it was love at first sight for her.
"They tell me that it all was too rapid. That's not true between Nicolas and me. It didn't happen rapidly. It was immediate," People quoted Bruni, as telling the French news magazine L'Express.
Although the pair were married nine weeks after they met, Bruni, who tied the knot with Sarkozy on Feb. 2 at the presidential Elysee Palace, said that for her it seemed slow.
"I know you don't get married in an instant and that even more, we were in the spotlight. But lovers, you know, have their own sense of time," she said.
In excerpts posted on L'Express's Web site, Bruni tells editor Christian Barbier that she was did not hesitate to get married.
"I wished to marry him right away. I felt that with him nothing bad could happen, Nicolas isn't addicted to power and that's what makes him courageous. I love being with him more than anything," she said.
