New Delhi: Arun Jailtley on Thursday led the BJP charge in the Rajya Sabha, against tainted judge Soumitra Sen and called it a 'fit case of misconduct' by a judge. The Calcutta High Court judge is accused of fund misappropriation when he was a lawyer.
Voting on Justice Sen impeachment to take place at 6.40 pm in the Rajya Sabha. If the Rajya Sabha votes to impeach him, the motion will move to the Lok Sabha.
Jaitely called for a national judicial commission to be set up to check errant judges, and objective criterion be followed for selecting judges.
On Wednesday, while defending himself, Jistoce Sen had argued that he hadn't misappropriated funds as a court receiver and even gave details of cheques that he had used to return the money.
But sources say Jaitley will produce documents to show that Sen hadn't used those cheques.
Sen was in the dock in Parliament on Wednesday. He got 90 minutes to defend himself against charges of misappropriating funds by claiming he had been victimised. Sen repeatedly blamed former Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan for his predicament.
CPM leader Sitaram Yechury introduced the motion and BJP leader Arun Jaitley countered Justice Sen's defence. On Thursday, Arun Jaitley is set to produce documents to prove an additional charge that Justice Sen deliberately misled the House.
