CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Government today announced a dole of Rs 4,000 each to 1.7 lakh fishermen families in view of the lean fishing period.Fishermen will be given a one-time relief of Rs 4,000 and the scheme would be implemeted at a cost of Rs 70 crore, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.The 13 costal districts in the state experience lean period during different months between October and March. This was part of allocation of Rs 113.42 crore for various welfare and social security schemes for the fishermen community.
