BANGALORE: A day after Pre-University college lecturers set a four-day deadline for the state government to fulfil their demands, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that the lecturers cannot set deadlines to the government as fulfillment of their demands will take time."CM D V Sadananda Gowda is busy touring the state to monitor drought relief works. He has no time for the next 4-5 days. The teachers should understand the priorities of the government,” Kageri said on Monday while appealing to PU lecturers to continue with the ongoing evaluation of II-PU answer scripts.The PU lecturers have set April 12 as the deadline to rectify anomalies in their salaries. The minister added PU lecturers should also keep in mind the interest of students who are awaiting their results before May 3 when CET exams are held. Kageri said that the pay committee to which the PU lecturers demands were referred to has recommended the government to increase the ex-gratia being given to the PU lecturers from Rs 200 to Rs 500 per month.“But the same is being demanded by primary and secondary school teachers too,” he added.Meanwhile, the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) has taken exception to those lecturers who are not attending evaluation work. In a release, it has warned absentees of stringent action. It adds that lecturers from private aided and unaided colleges absent for evaluation will lose their educational recognition, while “strict action” will be taken against the absentees from government colleges.From the next academic year, the students of science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology) in the first PU will have CBSE syllabus.
