HUBLI: Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar has put the blame on bureaucrats of the state for delay in developing Kannada software which has been a year-and-a-half-decade-old dream of Kannadigas. He was addressing mediapersons at the Meet the Press programme organised by Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ) at the press club in Hubli on Monday.Further he said that the state government itself is a major customer for the proposed Kannada software and it should develop and promote the same. So, no one could build pressure on the government if it has no interest. Many writers including K P Poornachandra Tejasvi and himself have been pressurising the government.“Around 30 experts who were involved in developing the software in Kannada have put in their efforts,” he added. “After over a decade of pressurising the government and even two years after submitting the experts’ report on the proposed software, the government had sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the project last year. It is unfortunate that the money was did not utilised at that time,” he said.Kambar also clarified that he was not against learning English but he is against learning only English and not ones mother tongue. English should be learnt through our mother tongue which would be easier.Unfortunately, the English language is being imposed on our young generation and even the children have been thought that the teachers are their aunts and uncles. It shows how the human relation has been losing its sanctity. He stated that folklore has no boundary, language or region and it is the strength of literature. So, establishing a Folklore University in the state will be a great forum to elaborate our folk culture and it will have great forum for further research.
