BHUBANESWAR: The Congress and the BJP members in the Assembly on Friday demanded dismissal of the police official who initially refused to accept FIR from the relatives of an alleged rape victim. The victim is a tribal girl of Chanabahal gram panchayat under Kantabanji Assembly constituency.Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Santosh Singh Saluja (Cong) criticised the State Government saying crimes against women are on the rise in the State. Referring to the incident in his constituency, Saluja said despite public outcry against a number such cases, the situation has not improved. He demanded that strong action be taken against the police official who did not accept the FIR on the case initially.KV Singhdeo (BJP) alleged that police accepted the FIR after seven days. He said because of the delay rape could not be established during the medical examination. Drawing a parallel with the Pipili case, Singhdeo demanded strong action against the ‘erring’ police official. As the IIC, Pipili Police Station, was dismissed from service for not accepting the FIR, same punishment should also be meted out to the police official involved in this case, he said. Same yardstick should be applied for all such cases, he added.Criticising the Government for the ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in the State, Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh said crimes against women are going up while referring to the alleged rape case in Kantabanji.
