CHENNAI: Spreading the message of peace and goodwill, along with a sense of charity, Karuna International organised their 14th National Conference in Chennai, on Friday.The two-day conference has teachers, students and academicians from 14 states all over India, and will cover various aspects such as improving the present activities of the organisation, suggestions for new activities, propagation of their newsletter and round table discussions on various other subjects. The national outstanding Karuna Club Awards will be given today, on day two.Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said that the affluent in society should be an inspiration to others by supporting the lessfortunate.To a request from the organisation to start Karuna Clubs in every Corporation School, he said, “If you represent this request through the proper fora, I will do everything in my power to implement it quickly.” R Prathap Kumar, Councillor of Ward 54, said that work towards starting the clubs would begin next week.The conference also features an exhibition on the themes: prevention of cruelty to animals, ecological values, implementation of animal laws, role of animals in environment, protection of animal rights and vegetarianism and protection of environment.The conference is open to the public, at CU Shah Bhavan, Ritherdon Road, Vepery.Also present at the inauguration was Dr Nanditha Krishna, Director, CP Ramasamy Iyer Foundation. Members of Karuna International who were present included chairman Dulichand Jain, president Kailashmull Dugar, general secretary Suresh Kankaria and conference chairman Padamchand S Chhajed.
