Kasauli: The Himachal Pradesh Police has ordered the transfer of five more police officials outside Solan district in connection with the Kasauli firing case. The policemen include an inspector, two sub-inspectors and two personnel from the Quick Response Team (QRT).

The action was taken after Dinesh Malhotra, Divisional Commissioner, Shimla had indicted the officials in his inquiry report into the May 3 firing. The policemen have been posted with the IRB Battalion.

In his 136-page report submitted to Additional Chief Secretary (Home), the Divisional Commissioner had pointed out some major lapses, primarily on the part of the police. The report clearly states that the two SHOs present at the scene were without their service arms despite being on duty. Also, the two QRT personnel failed to react despite carrying AK-47s with them.

51-year-old lady assistant, town and country planner, Shail Bala Sharma, and Gulab Singh, a Public Works Department (PWD) worker, were shot at by a hotel owner during a demolition drive in Kasauli.

While Shail Bala died on the spot, Gulab Singh succumbed to his injuries in PGI, Chandigarh. The hotel owner, Vijay Singh, had fled from the spot.

The inquiry report states that 18 police personnel were present on the site but still let the accused escape.

As of now, action has been taken against seven police officials including SP Solan and the DSP. More police officials are expected to face the heat in the coming days for showing laxity during the demolition drive which was being carried out on the orders of the Supreme Court.
