Anticipating that the Centre would invite him for consultations over the separate Telangana issue, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has reportedly summoned all the party MLAs to Delhi by September 10. The TRS chief wants to strengthen his hands whenever the consultations start.
All the 17 MLAs were called to Delhi and two of them, TRS legislature party leader E Rajender and Sircilla MLA K T Rama Rao, have already left for the national capital, sources said.
Rao’s close associates confirmed that the party chief would return from Delhi only after settling the separate statehood issue once and for all with the Centre. They are hopeful that he would have an announcement on Telangana statehood made by the Centre.
For the past few days, the TRS chief has been camping in Delhi along with his party leaders and is set to continue his stay for some more days.
The TRS leaders are expecting AICC president Sonia Gandhi to returm from abroad on September 9 and hold a meeting with union ministers and AICC leaders on the Telangana issue.
The Union Cabinet is likely to meet on September 14 and take up the issue as the UPA Coordination Committee has recognised it as a priority subject.
“We are planning to go to Delhi in the next couple of days. Our chief wants to take us into confidence before going for any possible consultations,” a TRS legislator said.
Another TRS leader told Express that the Congress high command had started the process to take a decision on the Telangana demand.
With the Telangana Congress MPs claiming that they have positive signals from the AICC leadership, the Seemandhra MPs have started to put in efforts to prevent the party high command from taking a favourable decision on the statehood demand.
On the other hand, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu decided to hold talks with Coastal and Rayalaseema leaders to get some clarity on the Telangana statehood demand over which the party leaders still have differences of opinion.
