Saudi Arabia: The newest tower to come up in Saudi Arabia will rise over the Burj Khalifa to become the tallest in the world.

The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, standing at 828 meters has been the tallest standing tower in the world till date. It has been dethroned by the Kingdom Tower that is to come up in Saudi Arabia and will be towering over all at a 1000 meters.

Media reports say that more than $1 billion contract for a spire, to be named the Kingdom Tower, has been awarded to the Bin Laden Group- the Saudi construction giants. The company is owned by the family of Osama bin Laden. The family disavowed the slain al-Qaeda terror group leader years ago.

The Kingdom Tower will have a Four Seasons hotel, serviced apartments, luxury condominiums and offices, encompassing, in all, about half a million square metres.

The tower, designed by Chicago-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture, is the first phase of the planned Kingdom City, a sprawling, $20 billion, two-square mile urban development project first announced in 2008 as the global financial crisis was squeezing world markets, say reports.
