HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who returned here from Delhi in the evening after greeting party president Sonia Gandhi, was asked by the party leadership again to go to Delhi on Saturday morning. According to sources, the leadership may discuss with Reddy the issue of initiating disqualification proceedings against the 16 party MLAs who sided with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and voted against the government. When the Chief Minister elicited the opinions of senior members of his cabinet, the view that emerged was to act against them swiftly since any delay would send a message to people that the Congress was apprehending defeat in the by-elections that would result if the rebel MLAs were to be disqualified. At the same, there were also words of caution from some that the party would stand to lose if it disqualified all the MLAs at one go. Instead of actually losing by-elections, it would be better to let people think, if they may, that the party was afraid of losing elections, those leaders felt.
