KOLLAM: With the one month breather given for setting up waste treatment plants at auditoriums, hotels, poultry farms and other large commercial establishment coming to a close on Monday, the Corporation is set to take serious action against offenders.Health Standing Committee chairperson Meenakumari told ‘Express’ that show-cause notice will be issued for those failing to set up waste treatment plants and penalty including cancellation of licence will be introduced. She said that Corporation is set to conduct a massive awareness campaign for public and vehicles carrying the message will travel to all the 55 divisions of the Corporation. Houses with more than 5 cents of land will also be asked to set up bio-gas plants. She said that the Corporation would set up containers to collect waste in most of the divisions. ‘’Two persons will be posted near the containers to screen the dumping of waste and public will be allowed to use them only till 11 am. Those using the container after the time will be fined,’’ she said. The squads to check waste disposal at public places will be strengthened and fine of Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000 will be levied on offenders.  Health supervisor Gopinath said that many commercial establishments have come forward to set up bio-gas plants and this is a welcome change. He said that health inspectors will conduct inspection at various commercial establishments to check whether proper facilities have been set up for waste disposal.
