Several scenic waterfalls across the country attract a huge number of crowds every year. Today, we will talk about one such waterfall named Kumbhavurutty Falls. It is a scenic spot located in the western ghat. It is located around 10 km and around 27 km from the town of Tenkasi. It is situated in the state of Kerala, near the Tamil Nadu border. It is a popular tourist destination for visitors people of both states. It is managed by the Forest Department of Kerala, the waterfall attracts a huge number of tourists every year, especially during the monsoon season.
This waterfall is among the prominent tourist sites in South India. It is located in the district of Kollam, Kerala, close to the Tamil Nadu border, and is around 7 km from Achankovil. Near Aryankavu Panchayath, Kumbhavurutty Falls falls in the eastern part of Kollam and holds great significance as one of Kerala’s important natural attractions.
To reach the waterfall, one must travel along the Achankovil Road from Mekkarai, navigating through hairpin bends known as Kondai Usivalaivu. After crossing the check post of the Tamil Nadu border, one passes through Manalar Falls before reaching Kumbhavurutty Falls, followed by the Achankovil River. The entire route offers a jungle-like travel experience, and if you’re lucky, you may spot wild animals. Since the waterfall is under Kerala Forest Department’s jurisdiction, there is an entry fee of Rs. 50 for adults and Rs. 25 for children. People can also take a bath in the waterfall.
A 500-metre mini trekking path leads to the falls. It was reportedly closed for more than five years after two tourists tragically drowned in the pool at the base of the falls. The famous site was reopened to the public two years ago after a new bridge was built for around Rs 25 lakh. Lakhs of people visit this place to experience the scenic beauty. People visiting the state of Kerala and Tamil Nadu should give this place a visit.
