Lashkar's deadly designs on India
The attempt to storm the RSS headquarters in Nagpur is just a pointer to the larger designs of the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

New Delhi: Nagpur got a terror reminder early on Thursday morning. Three suspected terrorists were shot down by the city police close to the RSS headquarters and sources say that terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) is behind the attack.

After its formation in 1990, Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba has emerged as a potent threat to India's internal security. The planned attack at RSS headquarters in Nagpur may have failed but intelligence agencies have warned that several modules of LeT are waiting to strike the nation.

With it's new headquarters in Sawai Da Nala near Muzaffarbad in Pakistan the outfit is planning bigger attacks on India.

Last month the Mumbai Police arrested 11 Lashkar terrorists near Aurangabad and recovered 30 kg of RDX, 17 AK-47s and 50 hand grenades. They were planning to target Ellora and also strike Mumbai.

The Delhi Police on May 8 killed Abu Hamza, a top Lashkar commander and arrested two of his associates. A raid on their tip-off led to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a house they had rented in Ballabhgarh, Haryana.

“Lashkar uses all sorts of techniques and explosives for their operations,” Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Karnal Singh said.

Sources in the Intelligence Bureau indicate:

They came in seven separate batches and are presently based in the area of Kupwara and Anantnag.

“India is their target. They are funded by international organisations and operate with planning and sophisticated weapons. If we do not take counter measures then we might have to face major attacks,” defence analyst, Lt Gen (Retd) A Karim said.

The outfit is on a massive recruitment drive in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat. The threat is growing and their target is to damage the socio-economic fabric of the nation. But unlike most other countries waging war against terrorism India lacks one single specialised unit to deal specifically with terrorism.
