THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF on Wednesday decided to launch mass agitations across the state demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The state committee of the Front took a decision to go ahead with a twin strategy of using conventional means of protest and the space in the media to drive home the point that Chandy should resign. “Handing over Vigilance to a Cabinet colleague won’t be sufficient. It is a decision purposefully taken to fool the people by projecting Chandy as someone who uphold the values such as political morality and respect for judiciary,’’ said LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan after the meeting.“In this case, the Vigilance court was not making any passing remark against Chandy. It clearly asked  clarification about 10 instances during the course of the deal. The file concerned was kept in the Finance Department for several weeks. It needs to be found out why such a delay had happened,’’ Viswan said. In reply to the queries posed by the UDF regarding the initial inquiries conducted by the LDF Governments which reportedly hadn’t found any fault with Chandy, Viswan said the latest report of the Vigilance was filed on the day of counting of the last Assembly polls. “We don’t know what happened in between. All these facts need to come out,’’ he said. The LDF has decided to take out marches in all Assembly constituencies on August 23 demanding the resignation of Chandy. “At district headquarterse and in corporations, combined marches will be taken out by LDF units,’’ Viswan said. Meanwhile, the UDF has dubbed the LDF demand for Chandy’s resignation as a ploy to divert attention from  the ongoing infights in the CPM. “The CPM is shattered by the controversy that followed VS’ visit to Berlin Kunhananthan Nair. Party cadre are watching the fight between the party secretary and Opposition Leader with bated breath,’’ UDF convenor P P  Thankachan said.
