New Delhi: Heat wave conditions intensified across north India on Sunday with Barmer in Rajasthan sizzling at 46 degrees Celsius, even as light showers lashed parts of the national capital and Himachal Pradesh.
In the desert state of Rajasthan, the mercury climbed further as Barmer registered a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius followed by Chittorgarh 45.4 deg C.
Churu, Jaisalmer and Kota recorded a maximum of 45.2, 44.7 and 44.6 degrees Celsius respectively, while Jodhpur and Bikaner settled at 44.5 degrees each.
People in the national capital had a little respite from the scorching weather this evening as squall and light showers hit the city, even as the maximum temperature was recorded at 43 deg C, three notches above normal.
However, the minimum was registered at 28.1, one degree below normal. Squall, with the wind speed of 62 km per hour, was followed by rains in parts of the capital, Met officials said.
In Haryana, Hisar was the hottest place registering a high of 44.3 deg C, three degrees above normal, while Karnal recorded 40.6 deg C, two notches above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar experienced a hot day at 41.8 deg C, while Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 40.5 and 39 deg C respectively. Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 37.9 deg C.
Meanwhile, marginal variation in temperatures was noticed in various parts of Himachal Pradesh which witnessed isolated rainfall coupled with partially overcast sky.
Dharampur in Mandi district experienced 63 mm of rain, while Mandi, Bhuntar and Dharalsala witnessed 10.4mm, 5 mm and 8.2 mm of rains respectively.
The state capital Shimla was lashed by sharp showers and there was no increase in the maximum temperature of 25.2 deg C yesterday. However, the minimum temperature rose to 18 degree C, 2.8 degrees above normal.
Keylong in the tribal Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest in the state with a low of 7.1 degree C, two degree below normal.
