Mumbai: Normal life was thrown completely out of gear in the megapolis following heavy rains over the past 24 hours. A disaster management team has swung into action to deal with the crisis and Army has been called out in many areas.
Mumbaikars have been advised to stay indoors till 1700 hours today. Mumbai city has recorded 146.8 mm rainfall while the suburbs received 174.1 mm rain in the past 24 hours, Met officials said. The Met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the city and its suburbs in the next 48 hours.
Incessant rains since the past 24 hours have badly affected rail traffic on the Central, Western and Harbour Railway routes. Motorists faced a tough time due to water logging in low-lying areas like Sakinaka, Kurla, Hindmata, Parel, Byculla, Milan Subway and Andheri.
