Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri said that Pakistan will not agree to any proposal to resolve the Kashmir issue that involves turning the Line of Control into a permanent border.
"Pakistan cannot agree to LoC as a solution as it was more of a problem than a solution. It is also important for all sides to acknowledge that the Kashmir issue is not about territory or ideology," he said.
"We have noted with interest Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's offer for a friendship treaty with Pakistan," he said.
Referring to the Indian leader's recent speech at Amritsar while flagging off the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus service.
"We are encouraged that the Indian Prime Minister also shares Pakistan's desire to find a pragmatic and practical solution for the final settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute," the Pakistan Foreign Minister said
Kasuri said Pakistan has tabled certain concrete proposals for working towards a final settlement of Kashmir issue over the past one year, including working out modalities to associate Kashmiri representatives with Indo-Pak dialogue process to promote a peaceful settlement of the problem.
"These proposals demonstrate Pakistan's sincere desire and reflect flexibility and readiness to take bold initiative," he said.
