Irate residents of ward 26 locked the main gate of Rail Nagar, protesting discharge of sewage water on the Baraipali-Beheramunda Road. They withdrew the stir
after Divisional Engineer of the Sambalpur Railway Division Biswajit Bhoi promised to initiate immediate steps.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to RDC (north) Arvind Padhee. They alleged that although they had been protesting release of sewage water directly to Beheramunda and Dasmati colonies inhabited by tribals and Dalits by the Captive Township of Sambalpur Railway Division for more than a decade, no action has been taken.
At present, the untreated drain water is released from five points of the Rail Nagar. While it floods two places on Baraipali-Beheramunda road, the water mixes with Dhobijoar nullah at three other places polluting the nullah on which hundreds of people depend for daily chores.
