Major gold robbery at Co-operative Bank

PATHANAMTHITTA: In a major bank robbery, jewellery and cash to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore were looted from the locker at Mezhuveli Service Co-operative Bank near here on Monday.The locker was found broken and 4.50 kg of gold and Rs 4.10 lakh in cash were missing from the bank at Kuriyanippally in Ullannur on the Kulanada-Aranmula Road.The robbery was noticed when the bank was opened  on Monday morning.Robbers broke open the window and door of the strong rooms by using gas cutter.  Iron rods and a gas cutter were found on the bank premises.Pandalam police team led by CI R Jayaraj and SI Sreekumar reached the spot  in the morning.Thereafter, Adoor DySP Anildas, Tiruvalla DySP Zachariah Mathew and Special Branch DySP M P Rajendran inspected the site.Forensic experts also inspected the premises and a police dog was  pressed into service.A police team led by Adoor DySP has started further investigation of the robbery.
