HYDERABAD: A person died after he fell into an open water valve pit at Marredpally. Though it is suspected the person fell into the pit late in the night, his body was found on Saturday morning. Though valve pits are supposed to be covered, officials said some were open as the lids had been stolen.
The incident took place near the water works office near Marredpally. The victim, S Ailaiah (32) earlier used to work as a 'hamali' and for the past few days working as a contract sweeper in the Railways. He was a resident of Addagutta.Marredpally police subinspector KS Ravi said Ailaiah left home on Friday around 6 p.m and did not return home. Ailaiah's body was found in the valve pit around 8.30 a.m on Saturday and shifted to a hospital. "Ailaiah suffered severe injuries on the head and on the chin," Ravi said.

Police suspect the victim might have been in an inebriated state and fell into the pit as the area was dark. The pit is around four feet deep and there was very little water in it, police said adding the victim might have died due to injuries suffered in the fall. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased demanded compensation for the family due to alleged negligence of the department.
