BANGALORE: The man who had won Rs 1 crore as compensation from a hospital because of medical negligence, Prashant Dhanaka Sheshadri (41), passed away in a city hospital on Tuesday.Dr Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director of Manipal Hospital, said Sheshadri was brought to the hospital on June 21 with reports of bleeding in the brain.In 2009, the Supreme Court had ordered Hyderabad- based Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to pay `1 crore as compensation to Sheshadri, who had gotten completely paralysed below waist while undergoing treatment at the hospital in 1990.Sheshadri had alleged that during operation, the surgeon had noticed erosion of vertebrae and called in a neurosurgeon. By the time they arrived, the spinal cord had been damaged, resulting in paraplegia.In 1993, he had filed a complaint, seeking `4.56 crore as compensation.
