VISAKHAPATNAM: The first day of Maoist Bharath bandh, protesting the recent killing of Maoist's top gun Mallojula Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji in West Bengal evoked a lukewarm response on Sunday.
No untoward incident was reported in the State as the bandh passed off peacefully. However, the bandh had a partial impact due to holiday on Sunday but could hit normal life on Monday, said sources. Commercial establishments shut down shutters while vehicles were off the roads in few Maoist strongholds in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
In Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, the impact was tepid while in Visakhapatnam district, tha bandh had a partial impact in few Maoist strongholds. While private vehicles and buses were plied, APSRTC preferred to keep some vehicles off the roads at some remote villages as a precautionary measure. APSRTC buses did not ply between Parvathipurama and Narayanapatna of Odisha on Sunday.Maoist posters seeking public support to make the bandh a success and demanding suspension of operation Green Hunt were found in various parts at agency areas in the region. Patrolling have been intensified to check infiltration.Police are also keeping a close vigil on public and private property in the region as rebels are reportedly planning a Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign TCOC against police.
