KANHANGAD: Intelligence agencies including the Army intelligence wing have taken a serious note of the parade taken out by an organisation in Army fatigue in connection with Milad-I-Sherif here. The activists of the organisation have reportedly been rehearsing for the parade for the past few days, but the police failed to get any clue about it. Kanhangad ASP Manjunath, who is in charge of the district police superintendent, said that a suo motu case has been registered against 100 persons for unlawful assembly. However, the police drew flak from some quarters as no case was registered for insulting the Army. The marchers wore military camouflage fatigue and the white glove of the Army used during the ceremonial parade, and marched in platoons of 60 persons each. The trainers and participants of the march included foreign nationals. It should be noted that the freedom parade organised by the PFI is banned in the state. Kanhangad witnessed a communal riot two months ago and the wounds are still to be healed. There are allegations that the organisation dared to hold the march because of the soft stand taken by the police against ‘extremist elements’. It is alleged that the police are not taking any interest in arresting the participants of the march.
