New Delhi: A massive explosion claimed at least seven lives in Kabul on Wednesday. The explosion occurred at an ammunition shop and destroyed surrounding shops.
According to an Interior Ministry spokesman, the number of causalities may rise. The immediate cause of the blast is not known though residents said it was caused by a suicide attack on an Afghan army patrol.
"I was in my room inside this market suddenly i heard the bang, I walked out and i saw some causality i don't really know what caused the blast, the gunpowder shops are a way or it might be a bomb or something else but I am not sure," an eyewitness, Wakeel Ahmed was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying.
2006 was the bloodiest year since the ouster of Taliban in Afghanistan. Kabul was rocked by several suicide attacks that killed scores.
The Taliban has threatened to step up suicide attacks across the country.
