BANGALORE: Inspiring and surprising shutterbug comes naturally to Canon.To get the adrenaline rushing of photography enthusiasts, this year, Canon India Pvt Limited, held its third Canon Photo Marathon India, a photography contest simultaneously held in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.The photo marathon is a one day theme based contest, aimed to bring together photographic talents in the battle to capture the best pictures under tight deadlines.This contest that tested the skills, creativity, endurance and the ability to perform under pressure was open to all camera users and attracted more than 2,000 entries.The format of the Canon Photo Marathon 2011 involved each contestant being judged on three theme based competition that were held from 9 am to 5pm.The contestants were given approximate two hours to create photographic masterpieces, in line with assigned three themes.The highlight of the event was the Grand prize of an eight-day photo tour to Australia in the guidance of renowned photographer Triston Yeo for top two winners, from each country.The other winners would be rewarded the EOS 1100D, EOS 550D and EOS 600D from the exciting range of Canon cameras.The most inspiring photograph of the day from each city would also win an ESO 1100D from the kitty of Canon.Speaking on the occasion, Kensaku Konishi, President and CEO, Canon India said, “Photo Marathon is Canon’s flagship endeavour to add to the excitement and challenge of photography enthusiasts for shooting beautiful pictures and explore their skills.This year’s three cities — Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore Marathon evidently proves the drastic increase in the number of participants.Indian people are getting more and more familiar with photography and enjoy it as a medium of creative expression.This competition is an experience for people and we are confident of witnessing some of the best talents of India clicking some of the most creative pictures.” Canon Photo Marathon in India, was held at St Xavier’s college, Mumbai where the event was flagged off by Kensaku Konishi, President and CEO, Canon India and fashion-celebrity photographer Daboo Ratnani.In Delhi, the event was held at Kalka Public School, New Delhi, and was flagged off by Dr Alok Bharadwaj, Sr VP, Canon India and leading Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan.In Bangalore, the event was held at St Joseph’s Indian High School, Vittal Malya Road and was flagged off by Aindrita Ray.Speaking on the occasion Dr Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India said, “The Photo Marathon is a very unique concept to help create ‘photo culture’ and passion in photography in India.Rapid progress in digital photographic technologies coupled with increasing population of young Indians with higher disposable incomes are providing compelling propositions for ‘experience’.Canon is a leader in photography and offers exciting ways to enjoy photography and bring out the best creative skills in photo enthusiasts.This is 3rd year, we have organised this event in India.We try to provide platforms and opportunities for wider and deeper level photo indulgence for Indians.The response in India is over-whelming, and we are delighted to see how photography has gained acceptance in the country and is growing from a hobby to a new culture.” Canon Photo Marathon India and comes under the regional round of Canon Photo marathon Asia 2011.The Canon Photo Marathon Asia is one of the most recognised and largest photo competition.This September, the Canon Photo Marathon Asia 2011 entered its ninth consecutive year with the contest that spanned five countries- India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
