KOCHI : The meeting between the representatives of the Mulavukad panchayat and the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) officials turned unruly after a confrontation between the media and the officials on Monday.“We had gone to KWA office in Pallathuruthy for a peaceful meeting when the executive engineer began to misbehave with the camerapersons who had arrived at the spot to cover the meet, heating up the situation,” said M T Xavier, local committee member of CPI.However, the executive engineer denied the allegations. “The situation did not get violent. We had a meeting over water scarcity with the panchayat representatives,” said C L Mary, executive engineer, KWA.The Mulavukad panchayat has been reeling under acute water shortage for around five months. The matter has led to repeated protests by the locals and visits by several higher authorities to the panchayat. The KWA has said that the as per their estimation there is leakage in the under water line of the KWA near the Bolgatty Palace. It is this leakage that has blocked the flow of the water from the authority’s pump house to the panchayat. “The underwater lines were laid years back. After that there has been a number of construction works done over it. As such, even the detection of the leak is very complicated and we might have to get an underwater diver to dig up the area to detect the leakage. As of now, the authority has just one such underwater diver for the whole state. So, it might take time to get him and get the pipe repaired,” said the Executive Engineer.
