The venue for the festival, Mawphlang Heritage Village, is an initiative to protect, preserve and conserve the traditional heritage and social customs of the ethnic tribes of the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The Heritage Village is spread over a 5 acre area in Mawphlang village.

The festival will be an annual event and is seen to be similar to Nagaland's famous Hornbill Festival.

The Monolith Festival will be held on October 25 and 26 and would showcase the local culture through musical performances, exhibitions, dances, traditional games along with local food and wine. For visitors there are camping facilities available inside the village.
