CHENNAI: The curtains are up and stage is set for the seventh annual Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META). Bringing together the best of Indian theatre, META recently announced the nominees that have been shortlisted across 13 categories and are set to compete for the META 2012 honour. META, India’s only national award for the theatre industry, received 268 entries this year from across the nation. From the entries sent on recorded DVDs, a selection committee picked the 10 best productions over a period of one week of intensive screenings and viewings. Nominees for the best play category are as follows: Adhe Adhure (Produced by Prime Time Theatre & directed by Lillete Dubey), A Far Cry (Produced by NT Theatre & directed by Ningthouja Deepak), Baghdad Wedding (Produced by Akavarious Productions & directed by Akarsh Khurana), Journey To Daakghar (Produced by Kasba Arghya & directed by Manish Mitra), Nagamandala (Produced by Zerifa Wahid Production & directed by Abinash Sarma), Samjhauta (Produced by The Fact Rangamandala & directed by Praveen Kumar Gunjan), Santaap (Produced by Rangasram & directed by Sandip Bhattacharya), Sup-Ek–Prahashan (Produced by Akhara Gharnatya Prasikshan Kendra & directed by Ashim Kumar Sharma), The Game (Produced by Raell Padamsee's Ace Productions Pvt Ltd & directed by Sam Kerawala), and The 39 Steps (Produced by Evam Entertainment Pvt Ltd & directed by Bharagav Ramakrishnan)From March 1 to 6, these productions will be performed live in Delhi, in front of a grand jury and an audience. The META 2012 jury consists of eminent names like Amal Allana, Ananda Lal, Darshan Jariwala and Samik Bandyopadhyay.
