The capital’s busy MG Road turned ramp for 20 male models on Friday morning who paraded from East Fort to Palayam showing off jute wear. It was a first for the city and predictably, motorists and pedestrians were amused.
Fashion designer Ajikumar Sudhakaran (Aks), who staged the event, said that the event was intended to raise awareness about jute and the vast possibilities it offered. It also offered him an opening into the world of fashion, which had so far eluded him, he said.
‘’I’ve been designing attires for college shows and such for some time, but I’ve never really got an opening,’’ said Ajikumar, who hails from Kadakkavur in the district. He said that he was attracted to fashion designing through his parents, who are tailors.
Friday’s programme had no sponsors, but such events can be staged nationwide if sponsorship was forthcoming, he said.
