Micromax launches Cyanogen-based Yureka smartphone at Rs 8,999 in India
Yu Televentures, a subsidiary of Micromax, has partnered Cyanogen to offer customised user experience to end users.

New Delhi: Micromax has announced the launch of its first smartphone under the Yu brand. Named Yureka, the phone carries a price tag of Rs 8,999.

The Micromax Yureka runs Cyanogen OS which is based on Android 4.4.4 operating system. According to Micromax, the Yureka will be one of the first handsets to get the Android Lollipop OS based version of Cyanogen.

Yu Televentures, a subsidiary of Micromax, has partnered Cyanogen to offer customised user experience to end users.

Cyanogen operating system, built on Android, is known for delivering rich software advancements that optimise performance, customisation, security and privacy features on mobile devices.

Micromax's Yureka smartphone is engineerd with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of built-in storage, a 5.5-inch IPS display, a 13-megapixel rear CMOS camera and a 5-megapixel front camera with a 71 degree wide angle lens.

The Yu smartphone will be sold exclusively on e-commerce site Amazon.in.

"Yu has been envisioned for building an ecosystem of connected devices and offer customised experience to users," said Micromax co founder Rahul Sharma. The brand will engage directly with end users, providing them with bootlegger access to help them come up with software upgrades that they want on their phones, he added.
