New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission on Monday clarified that it has not given any direction to take action against former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti in his infamous midnight raid at Khirki extension.

The Commission said it had taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and expected some reports from the concerned authorities in the matter. The issue is being investigated by its team and report is awaited.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the NHRC has directed the Delhi Police to take action against Bharti for midnight raid at Khirki extension. The police have been given two months' time to take action.

However, Somnath Bharti, who has been maintaining that he did now wrong, has said that the NHRC should carry out an unbiased probe. "I am not aware of the content of the letter, but I appreciate their concern. I will request them to look into the matter in an unbiased way," he said.

"I am not aware as to what wrong they are attributing to me, TV crew was present there and allegations are lie," he added.

During raid, Bharti had accused of Ugandan women of being involved in drug trafficking and prostitution.
