BHUBANESWAR: The eight-member Justice MB Shah Commission appointed by the Centre to probe irregularities in the mining sector in several states, including Odisha, would arrive here on Wednesday on a week-long visit. The members would visit several mines in Joda in Keonjhar and Koida in Sundargarh district on December 8 and December 9. Steel and Mines Minister Raghunath Mohanty said the State Government would extend all cooperation to the commission in its inquiry. The probe will get full support at all levels, he said. The minister said that the State Government had already provided information sought by the commission thrice and is ready to do so if it is required again. Sources said that Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik has directed the officials of the Steel and Mines and Industries departments to prepare the answers to all the queries of the commission. The district collectors of Keonjhar and Sundergarh, the deputy directors of the Mining Department posted at Joda and Koida too have been asked to prepare notes and meet all the demands of the commission. The Steel and Mines Department has already prepared a status report on the mining activities of 57 iron ore and manganese companies out of a total of 126. The department too has prepared an action taken report on the steps initiated by the Government to control illegal mining activities.
