As the demand for splitting Uttar Pradesh into four smaller states gains ground, AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry on Wednesday said he had sounded the party's Central leadership about the demand for a separate Bundelkhand state.
"I have sounded my party president about the demand for a separate Bundelkhand state" to be carved out of Uttar Pradesh, Mistry, in-charge of party's affairs in the state, told reporters in Lucknow.
When asked about the demand for creation of three other states , Purvanchal, Pachmianchal and Avadh , out of Uttar Pradesh, he said "I will not say anything on it right now."
Mistry, who met newly-appointed district and city unit chiefs, said the party's target was to send more than its present strength from the state to the next Lok Sabha.
"We have set our target but will not disclose it.
We are making our strategy and planning according to it," he said.
The candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections would be decided soon, he said adding the initial process had begun.
A day after the UPA decided to carve Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, BSP supremo Mayawati renewed her demand for splitting the country's biggest state into four.
"The BSP has always been in favour of smaller states.
For this, the state Assembly had passed a proposal on November 23, 2011 for splitting Uttar Pradesh into four states to ensure better governance and administration," she told reporters.
