CHENNAI: The Christmas season has dawned and the city hotels have already kickstarted their celebrations. With just 20 days left for Christmas, Epi Bakes at Mylapore recently held a cake-mixing ceremony. The event turned out to be a fun-filled one. This, of course, is only the beginning of what will be a truly memorable Christmas at this newly opened cake joint. Epi Bakes has planned festivities throughout the month. As Manju Chandran, project manager, Epi Bakes, said, “It is a tradition to welcome the holiday season with a fruit soaking ceremony ahead of Christmas.”There were huge trays filled with fruits – raisins, black currants, candied peel, candied cherries and tutti frutti. And of course, the all important ‘spirit of the season’ in bottles – wine, rum and whisky to soak the fruit in.Film actor-turned-politician S Ve Shekher graced the occasion and also participated in the cake mixing event. Expert chef N Sankar and his team along with representatives of NGOs like Annai Illam and India Serve too took part in the cake mixing event.The Christmas cakes will be put on sale and a part of it will be served after mass in the Gopalpuram church as a charity gesture and community outreach.
