THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thrilled by the success of its mobile outlet piloted at Palayam ahead of New Year, state government-undertaking Meat Products of India (MPI) has decided to deploy the unit at Palayam on all weekends. The vehicle, which will sell all MPI products, will be stationed near the Connemara Market from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays, MPI managing director Ani S Das said. With the market price of chicken steady at ` 170, MPI had reduced it to ` 130 a kg ahead of New Year. MPI has also decided to continue with the SMS booking facility implemented for New Year sales. Customers can place orders by SMS-ing to 9446226600. On December 31 alone, the mobile unit set a record by collecting ` 1.36 lakh. MPI recorded sales to the tune of ` 4 lakh from its outlets in the city on December 30 and 31. Meat sales of MPI for December stands at ` 65 lakh, a 30- per cent increase over 2010.
