ALUVA: A municipal temporary contingent worker was brutally attacked when he opposed some unidentified persons from dumping wastes near Telephone Exchange here on Thursday night. G Paramasivan, 40, was on duty to prevent people from dumping waste on the road side last night.Three persons travelling in an autorickshaw came near the Exchange at about 10 pm and tried to dump wastes on the roadside. Paramasivam prevented them from doing so. Agitated by Paramasivam’s actions, they attacked him on his head with hard wooden sticks. He was seriously injured.Hearing the screams for help, the local people rushed to the spot, but the assailants escaped the scene. Paramasivan was admitted to Aluva District Hospital.The Municipal Secretary in Charge lodged a complaint with the CI of Police in this connection on Friday.Wastes were being dumped on road sides especially near KSRTC Stand, Power House Junction, Telephone Exchange, Oomankuzhithadam, Market, Palace Road etc; posing serious threat to the public health. The municipal authorities were compelled to clean-up the area when the public, social and environmental organizations and the Judiciary interfered in the issue. Most of the wastes were cleared.The municipal authorities deputed contingent workers to keep a vigil in the area and prevent dumping of wastes, round the clock. This action proved effective as people could not dump waste on the road side.
