Lalji Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and molecular biologist has been selected for the M V Pylee award instituted by the Cochin University of Science and Technology.
The award comprises a purse of `2 lakh and a citation. The award is given once in every three years to university teachers who have
made a mark in teaching and research. The national jury presided over by Cusat Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath selected Lalji for the award.
Lalji has published 219 research papers. He is the founder of Genome Foundation, a non-profit making organisation in Hyderabad. The social impact of some of the research works carried out by Lalji include development of a universal probe for DNA fingerprinting, conservation of wildlife and species identification for forensic applications.
