HYDERABAD: Opposition leader and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu approached the High Court on Monday with a plea for quashing of the criminal proceedings pending against him in a lower court of Cyberabad on the Telangana issue. A cheating case was registered against Naidu at the Chaitanyapuri police station in November last for allegedly reversing his poll promise on statehood to Telangana. Police registered the case against him following direction from the XI Metropolitan Magistrate of Cyberabad on a plea by S Janardhan Goud, a practising advocate of the city.
Janardhan said the TDP had promised to work for fulfilment of the demand for Telangana statehood and included the promise in its election manifesto in 2009. Later, the party cheated the 4.5 crore Telangana people by reversing its stand.The lower court summoned Naidu to appear before it on February 9. He urged the High Court to grant a stay on his appearance in the lower court.
