Nepal govt vows to foil Maoist strike
Nepal's government has promised to crush a four-day anti-government strike called by Maoists and the unified seven party alliance.

Nepal: Nepal's royalist government has promised to crush an anti-government strike called for early April.

The four-day strike has been called by the newly unified seven party alliance and the Maoists.

The government said the strike was intended to generate disorder and claimed to have credible information that Maoist cadres were being infiltrated into Kathmandu.

Authorities have banned pillion riding on two wheelers for two weeks to try and stop motorcycle-borne Maoists from attacking troops.

The government has also asked people not to travel into Kathmandu except on emergencies and to carry identity cards while commuting in the city.

Home Minister Kamal Thapa said, "Keeping in view the probable danger, in the coming days security in Nepal will be tightened even further."
