What to watch out forNation-wide strike against bank merger todayThe nation-wide strike called by the bank unions will affect services of state-owned banks today. Coming just a week after a day-long strike by the officers’ union, today’s strike which is being organized by the United Forum of Bank Unions is against the proposed merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda. The union opposed the move and said that a bigger sized bank will not be able to stake a place in the top 10 banks of the world. On Wednesday evening, people from the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will be lighting millions of lamps at the ‘Ayyappa Jyothi’ event being held across 250 centers in Kerala. The event will be a showcase of opposition against the recent Supreme Court verdict that overturned the temple’s entry ban which disallowed women “of a menstruating age" from entering. According to the organizers, Sabarimala Karma Samithi, 10 lakh devotees will be participating in the event.
