New Delhi: National Human Rights Commission on Friday issued a notice to the police authorities of northeast Delhi over alleged police inaction in the "abduction and forced marriage" of a minor girl in the area.

According to an official statement released in New Delhi, notice in this regard was issued to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) asking for a report within two weeks.

The DCP has also been asked to mention the steps taken for the protection of the family of the victim.

The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report that a minor girl, resident of Shastri Park in East Delhi, was kidnapped and forced to marry.

The police registered a case of kidnapping but took no action against the kidnappers. The accused continued to threaten the family of the victim, the NHRC said.

According to a media report on May 29, the accused kidnapped the minor girl while she was going to school. The accused also threatened the father of the victim of dire consequences, when he tried to free his daughter.

The local police did not take any action even after a month of registration of an FIR for kidnapping on the complaint of the victim's father, the report said.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, the statement added.
